Alumni from all over the world gather at The University of Hong Kong on this day to celebrate the spirit of connection, education, and brilliance as they return to their beloved alma mater. Friends are reconnected, professors get to see how far their past cohorts have come, and everyone gets to enjoy their day on March 16th, 2025, at the Senior Common Room of this grand and established university.

Café 1951 - in the Senior Common Room is located in the heart of the HKU Campus - it serves as a clubhouse for the senior members of the university, where social gatherings and departmental meetings alike are held in this relaxing social setting. From its humble beginnings in the early 1950s, the SCR has had exquisite architecture throughout the ages. With intricately carved wooden beams adorned on its vintage walls, and plush emerald green velvet sofas paired by intimate lighting.

Over 120 alumni and friends came together to connect, share stories, and create new memories. The event we photographed was dubbed Glocal Alumni Tea & Tales, where the word ‘glocal’ incorporates both local and international aspects of HKU connections alike. There were 10 featured alumni speakers split into two sessions for the day, including but not limited to Mezgebe, Saad, Madina - of which we helped take portrait photographs for a HKU Alumni Campaign. These three were all past mentees of the HKU Mentorship Programme, and decided to pursue careers in Hong Kong after graduation. We had a great time working on capturing their amazing spirit!

As the speakers shared their stories, audiences and attendees sipped on an elevated tea beverage - a key partner of this event. Mindful Sparks was founded by an alumni of HKU - Winston Lau - who set out to create a complex yet delicate non-alcoholic wine. It was a truly innovative drink, and enhanced the glocality of tea culture and tasting!

The day was filled with laughter, heartfelt conversations, and a sense of belonging that only the HKU community can provide. As alumni mingled, they shared their journeys, celebrating the diverse paths they have taken since graduation. The featured speakers inspired the audience with their stories of resilience and achievement, highlighting the glocal impact of their education and experiences.

The warmth of camaraderie and the vibrant atmosphere made this year's Alumni Day a memorable occasion, reinforcing the bonds forged during their time at the university and igniting a renewed passion for lifelong learning and collaboration among all attendees.
